The Western Rural Development Center is now accepting nominations for its Fellows Program. This program recognizes excellence in community and/or rural development for individuals who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the Rural West. In addition to the recognition, WRDC Fellows will have the opportunity of interacting and working with other WRDC Fellows. 

To be considered as a WRDC Fellow, an individual must be engaged in and currently be making significant contributions to Rural and/or Community Development and must have been employed in these activities for at least four years.

No more than two Fellows will be approved from any state or territory in the western region at any given time. Fellows will serve three-year terms. At the conclusion of this three-year term, individuals are eligible to be nominated for additional terms.

  1. WRDC Fellows will support and assist in the promotion of Western Rural Development Center projects and activities.
  2. WRDC Fellows will provide leadership in identifying issues and concerns of the Rural West and consider means of addressing these issues and concerns.
  3. The WRDC Fellows will primarily be connected by electronic means including email, Web, and teleconferencing.
  4. WRDC Fellows are eligible to serve as Visiting Fellows at the Western Rural Development Center in Logan, Utah.

  1. Recognition for excellence. This recognition will assist in tenure and promotion and will make the individual more marketable. 
  2. An opportunity to interact with and learn from other Fellows.
  3. Increased opportunities to understand and address the major problems and concerns of the Rural West. 
  4. Provides an opportunity for your employer to showcase individuals and programs that are making an impact.

Nominations may be made by a member of the WRDC Board of Directors, Agricultural Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension State Directors, Tribal College Extension Directors, or by the USDA Rural Development State Director from any of the 13 states or Pacific Territories comprising the western region

How to Make a Nomination
Complete the online Fellows Program Nomination Form and attach the required PDF documents by the October 25, 2013 deadline. The required documents include:

  • Three letters of support (one of the three letters may be written by the nominator)
  • Curriculum Vitae or current resume of the person you are nominating

Evaluation and Selection
Nominees are evaluated and approved by the WRDC Board of Directors using a matrix based on the eligibility and criteria listed in this Call for Nominations. 

Nominees and their respective nominator will be notified by email on or before November 20, 2013, informing them whether or not they have been selected into the WRDC Fellows Program.
